Setup Guide
Get your Stoplight Pro device working in minutes
Follow this step-by-step guide to set up your Stoplight Pro device and start getting real-time traffic light predictions.
Before You Begin
Make sure you have:
- Your Stoplight Pro device
- An iPhone with Bluetooth and location services enabled (iOS 15.0 or later)
- An active Stoplight Pro subscription (sign up at your account page)
- A clean windshield surface for mounting
Note: Stoplight Pro currently supports iOS only. Android support is coming soon.
Step 1: Mount Your Device
Choose the Right Location
Mount the device directly below your rearview mirror. This position provides:
- Optimal view of traffic lights ahead
- Easy visibility of the device display without looking away from the road
- Minimal obstruction to your field of view
- Safe distance from airbag deployment zones
Mount the Device
- Clean the windshield area with rubbing alcohol and let it dry completely
- Remove the protective film from the adhesive on the device
- Press the device firmly against the windshield for 10-15 seconds
- Wait 15 minutes for best adhesion before driving
💡 Pro Tip: For optimal traffic light visibility, mount the device directly below your rearview mirror. The device has a large built-in battery with solar charging—it will maintain power indefinitely when mounted on your windshield. A USB-C charging port is available as a backup charging option if needed in low-light conditions.
Step 2: Download the Mobile App
Get the App
Download the Stoplight Pro app:
- iOS Users: Download from the App Store (iOS 15.0 or later required)
App download links are available on your account page.
Android Coming Soon: We're currently working on Android support. Sign up to be notified when it's available.
Create Your Account
- Open the Stoplight Pro app
- Sign in with the same email you used to create your account
- Verify your subscription is active
💡 Pro Tip: Make sure you're signed in before attempting to pair your device.
Step 3: Pair Your Device
Enable Bluetooth
Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your smartphone. The app will guide you through pairing.
Connect to Your Device
- In the app, tap the device connection button
- The app will automatically search for nearby Stoplight Pro devices
- Select your device from the list (identified by serial number)
- Wait for the pairing confirmation message
- The device display should show a connection indicator
Test the Connection
Once paired, the device should display a green checkmark or "Connected" status. The device will automatically reconnect when you start driving.
💡 Pro Tip: The device and phone will automatically reconnect when you start your car, no need to pair again.
Step 4: Configure Settings
App Permissions
Grant the following permissions when prompted:
- Location Services: Required for traffic light detection (set to "Always Allow" for background operation)
- Bluetooth: Required to communicate with the device
- Background App Refresh: Allows the app to work while driving without staying open
- Notifications: Optional, for system updates and alerts
Display Settings
Customize your device display in the app settings:
- Brightness: Adjust for day/night visibility
- Auto-brightness: Enable for automatic adjustment
- Sound Alerts: Enable/disable audio notifications
💡 Pro Tip: Start with auto-brightness enabled and adjust only if needed.
Step 5: Start Driving
Your First Drive
- Make sure the app is running (it will work in the background)
- Drive normally and approach traffic lights as usual
- The device will automatically detect traffic lights ahead
- Watch for countdown predictions on the device display
- The system learns from your driving patterns and improves over time
Understanding Predictions
- Countdown Timer: Shows seconds until the light turns green on the device display
- Confidence Indicator: Some displays show prediction confidence
- Network Learning: Accuracy improves as more drivers use the system in your area
💡 Pro Tip: Predictions may take a few trips to become highly accurate in new areas as the AI learns local traffic patterns.
Best Practices
For Optimal Performance
- Keep the app running in the background while driving
- Ensure location services are always enabled for the app
- Keep your device firmware updated (updates happen automatically when connected)
- Clean the device display periodically for clear visibility
- Charge your phone during long trips to maintain background operation
Safety First
- Never interact with your phone while driving
- Use predictions as helpful information, not as a replacement for watching the road
- Always obey traffic signals and laws
- Mount the device directly below the rearview mirror as recommended
- Set up all settings before you start driving
Quick Troubleshooting
Device won't power on
The device has a large built-in battery that stays topped off through solar charging. If it won't power on, ensure it's properly adhered to the windshield and has been exposed to light. The battery should maintain charge indefinitely under normal windshield mounting. In rare cases of extended low-light conditions, you can charge the device using the USB-C port with any standard USB-C cable.
App won't connect to device
- Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your phone
- Force-close and reopen the app
- Make sure you're within 30 feet of the device
- Try restarting your phone
No predictions showing
- Verify your subscription is active at your account
- Check that location services are enabled and set to "Always"
- Ensure the app is running (check background apps)
- Drive in areas with traffic lights to allow detection
